Welcome back to our series exploring ready made table bases for any budget and style.
We’ve talked about the first step, which is choosing (or making) a table top. So let find a base for it!
If it’s a dining table top you are looking to complete, go where the restaurants go!
Restaurant table bases are reasonably priced and, almost by definition, commercial grade. Assembly is usually minimal, making them very DIY friendly. As for style points, the options may surprise you.
The most common heights are:
- Dining height (30”)
- Bar height (44”)
Also available, though with less style selection is:
- Counter height (36”)
- Adjustable height

What’s great about restaurant table bases is the information you get in the form of specifications. Most manufacturers have recommended table sizes listed for their bases. It’s as easy as measuring your table top in order to narrow down your selections.
If you have a heavy table top made of stone or granite it’s especially important to have a base as big or bigger than recommended to support it.
Where to Buy
Here’s the thing, you don’t need to be a restaurant to buy a restaurant table base!
You can buy from restaurant suppliers online or, even easier, through Amazon. The basic cross bases by BFM Seating, start at less than $50 shipped with Amazon Prime!

While Amazon may be more simple for some people, online restaurant suppliers will usually have better pricing. There are a few I’ve worked with that don’t require any sort of commercial account.
Counter height bases like the two shorter ones shown with Reclaimed Swag Table tops are available at Webstaurant Store. I’m not affiliated, they were just easy to work with so I’m passing it on.
Style
The most common style of restaurant table base is a pedestal, but sets of 4 table legs are to be found as well. And you won’t be limited in the color and finish department. Finishes from black to metallic to bright colors are readily available.
If it’s a patio table your making, there are bases with style and rated for outdoor use!
DIY Friendly
Some restaurant bases do require assembly, but most often it is simple and includes instructions. Each manufacturer can give you more information about how the base you purchase needs to attach, but it’s often as easy as using simple hardware to attach the base to the underside of the tabletop.
So are you excited!? Hopefully you have some ideas of how to make an awesome custom table by mixing and matching a table top with a restaurant table base.
Before you know it you’ll be posting pictures of your new table with the hashtags #lookwhatImade and, of course, #ReclaimedSwag. 🙂
